i'm grateful for the mornings, for

Updated: Aug 3, 2020

  • the birds in the hedgerow outside my window who are starting to fledge. sometimes they fly straight into my window by accident, but they always work it out after that.

  • the sound of the chickens squawking in the garden, proudly announcing that they’ve laid an egg (or two) that they’ll let me have for breakfast

  • the sound of tractors hurtling past my flat, apples and potatoes in the back. they’ve been up for hours already bringing crops and vegetables to make into cider, crisps, and juice.

  • having a double bed so i can stretch my legs and enjoy the cold space at the end

  • my coffee machine that works dutifully every morning

  • having a huge glass of orange juice when i haven’t eaten anything yet. it tastes fresh, and cold, and wonderful.

  • making breakfast, adding blueberries grown in hereford.

  • opening the blinds and my flat filling up with sunlight

  • animal crossing. sitting in my armchair with a mug of black coffee, playing this silly little game and enjoying the music. for the hundreds of people who worked so hard to make this. who took the time to animate the flight path of virtual butterflies, who cared enough to include a thousand tiny details like rain hitting against the shop windows and trickling down.

  • a cool shower, heated nicely by the sun feeding solar panels. the spiders who are polite enough to keep their distance when i’m in the bathroom - knowing they’re too high up on the wall for me to catch them and let them outside.

  • the unlimited potential of the day ahead! i love getting up early and seeing the day in at 6, but i’m learning to forgive myself for the days when i want to sleep in. there’s always so much to be ridiculously grateful for and i’m trying to keep a note of it
