i love the phrase ‘good morning’ because it means
a) i am up before noon
b) the sun has risen again
c) no nuclear holocaust yet
d) it’s a brand new day! it can go in any direction! it’s got all the potential of untouched snow
i never know if it’s someone stating that it is, in fact, a good morning or if they are telling me that i should go forth and have a good one. or both. or neither. it’s something that people who are up and out before 8 in the morning will say to one another on the street, as if you are part of some elitist club of early risers and dog walkers.
‘good morning’ is a congratulations that i’ve got up and gone somewhere. ‘good morning’ is a reminder that we’re all in this together! ‘good morning’ is probably all i’ve ever said to the other people who live in my culdesac.
i am a dedicated fan of breakfast, sunshine, and coffee. mornings are when i am my most productive, most hopeful, most content. factors such as my pisspoor iron count, disproportionately harsh hangovers, and general lethargy mean that i rarely allow myself to remember that i am - in fact - a morning person!
yay for the sunrise
